Crystal River is a fly fisherman’s dream! We have so many different scenarios that we can cover in one day that make it a very versatile place to fly fish. We have vast open grass flats where we can find tailing redfish, snook, and black drum, as well as the elusive sheepshead. On top of grass flats, we have endless spartina grass shorelines littered with limerock and oyster bars that hold a lot of redfish, snook, trout, and even flounder. We can fly fish deep creeks, or fly fish shallow flats for these fish and can catch them on anything from small crab flies to gurglers and poppers. Here's the best part of all of this, our fish EAT! Because this area gets very little pressure, our fish are not leader shy, nor are they very spooky. There have been several fish we have hit in the head with lead eyes and they ate the fly the moment they saw it! This makes for a very fun experience! During the warmer months, we do get a few migrating species off of Crystal River, such as tarpon, cobia, and tripletail that we can fly fish for. We have the opportunity to target all of these species on fly, all in the same day! Crystal River really is one of the most versatile places I have ever fished, and my clients agree. There’s no end to what we can do in a day of fly fishing here, and that’s what makes your experience here like no other!
