Crystal River offers a very diverse fishery year round. This allows us to be able to target multiple species of fish, all within the same day. One of the advantages to having a bay boat, is being able to drive just a little bit offshore into what we call “Nearshore”, to fish for species such as Grouper, Cobia, Sheepshead, Bonito, Spanish Mackerel, Tripletail, and Mangrove Snapper to name a few. These fish can be targeted with conventional tackle as well as fly rods! It makes for a great day of catching multiple species in Crystal River!

Because we have the opportunity to fish out of a bay boat, we can fish these nearshore rock piles in most weather conditions, as these rock piles are in a shallow area that won’t get too rough.

SHALLOW WATER GROUPER

Grouper.jpg

In the late fall to early winter months, we target shallow rock piles in Crystal River in search of Gag grouper. These rock piles can be anywhere between 5 foot of water on out to 15 foot of water. Once we get to the rock pile, more often than not, you can see the rock you are throwing out because of the crystal clear water in Crystal River. We take big spinning rods and cast large plugs around these rocks for the grouper. Once we get a bite, you better hang on! These fish pull harder than anything else you will encounter! They also make a great meal on the dinner table!
